Job Title: Director of Project Management

Summary of Position: The Project Management Office is responsible for facilitating, planning, and assisting with the execution of strategic and operational projects that intersect with university data, processes, and technology. The Director of Project Management consults on strategic projects and other key initiatives in alignment with leadership from all IWU operating units.The Director of Project Management provides leadership for the UIT Project Management Office and ensures coordination of PMO activities with clients from multiple business areas. The Director is responsible for building and maintaining collaborative relationships with leaders across all IWU operating units. The Director assists in the execution of both strategic and operational projects through an understanding of and alignment with the University’s strategic direction, aligned with business goals. The Director partners across all operating units by engaging the appropriate UIT resources, providing recommendations and delivering solutions to advance the institution. These solutions will include the application of technology, processes, and workflow improvements. Considerations such as process redesign and change management may be included in the solutions delivered.
The Director oversees the operations of the Project Management Office and ensures delivery of optimal solutions by employing standard project management strategies. The Director will ensure clients are served with the required scoping, validation, analysis, and delivery of projects. Effective communication in support of client relationships is key. In addition to leading and directing the PMO team of Business Analysts and Project Managers, the Director will work closely with Security Officers, Architects, Developers, and other UIT staff members to ensure project requirements are fulfilled.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Understand clients' overarching technology needs and business goals
- In partnership with CIO and DCIO, recommend initiatives within UIT and among the business units that will leverage information as an asset and facilitate digital transformation
- Collaborate with UIT resources to address client needs to ensure positive results and ROI
- Direct Business Analysts to define, validate and scope projects, ensuring timely delivery of project requirements and objectives
- Collaborate with Solution Engineers, Enterprise Architects, and others to derive full project requirements
- Ensure effective communication between UIT and clients
- Provide strategic oversight to ensure UIT delivery of effective solutions that achieve client objectives
- Communicate realistic and accurate expectations with clients on UIT’s ability to deliver on project objectives and timelines. This includes articulating accurate resources required to execute project deliverables
- Ensure client projects are reviewed by appropriate governance group(s) per established criteria
- Ensure UIT teams understand the impact of solutions across the University, in terms of processes and resources
- As a member of the UIT leadership team, provide recommendations and assist in the selection of solutions to advance the technology posture of the University
- Provide budget oversight for Project Management team
- Represent the Project Management team on various governance committees
- Other duties as assigned

Education
- Bachelor’s degree in business or communications, IT, or related fields
- Master’s degree preferred
- PMP certification preferred
- Agile certifications preferred
Experience
- Five (5) years’ work experience within a complex organization with a focus on technology
- Significant experience managing complex projects with positive results
- Proven consulting experience and customer engagement experience
- Professional leadership experience
- Experience and/or certifications in change management methodologies
- Experience in higher education preferred
Required Skills
- Certification in one or more Project Management methodologies (CAPM, PMI, Agile)
- Proven work experience in business analysis, customer service, project scoping, or an equivalent combination of training and experience necessary to complete position responsibilities
- Broad knowledge of business practices and IT systems
- Vendor engagement and management experience
